Welcome
Welcome to the web site of the D IRC network.
To connect, you'll first need an IRC client. For an extensive list of clients that you can choose from, we advice you to take a look at this page on Wikipedia.
Once you've got a client installed, you can connect by clicking here or, if that doesn't work, by entering the following information in your client:
- Server: irc.metadirc.nl
- Port: 6667 or 6670
- Channel: #MetaD
Most people can be found in the #D channel (where Dutch is the commonly spoken language), but everyone is free to open their own channel, as long as one abides by the rules.
Rules
Wherever lots of people come together, rules are necessary to keep order in the chaos. The D IRC network is no exception. Therefore, we expect everyone to abide by the following set of rules and guidelines.
Things we like:
- Chatting on IRC;
- Be involved instead of idling;
- You dropping in to say hello. :-)
Things we don't like:
- Flooding in any way;
- Distribution of, linking to, or exhort to use of harmful, illegal, pornographic or otherwise unacceptable material;
- Attempts to take over existing nicknames, channels or network services;
- Racism or any other form of discrimination;
- Spam or advertisements;
- Cracking attempts;
- Initmidation of fellow users;
- Things that are in any other way unacceptable according to the law and/or the administrators.
Extra rules concerning bots:
- No more than one bot per person in #D;
- Bots that say things unasked are generally considered irritating. Therefore, such bots are not allowed in #D;
- One can use #bots, #dev or any other unoccupied channel for testing purposes.
For channels other than #D the following applies:
- Channel operators are not necessarily the same persons as network administrators;
- Channel operators are free to define their own set of rules for a channel as long as they do not conflict the general rules;
- Don't come complaining to the network adminstrators if you disagree with the rules of a certain channel, that's not our business.
By using the D IRC network you implicitly accept these rules. Repeatedly breaking these rules can and will lead to appropriate measures.
Please do not feel intimidated by all this. As long as you simply behave yourself, there won't be any problems. :-)
Logs
Please note that what is said on the D network might be logged. The servers themselves do not log, but keep in mind that there may be bots present that do. Private conversations are never logged.
Network administrators
The network administrators are the people who maintain the network and can be contacted in case of problems. They have extra privileges to prevent things from getting out of hand, in case of both technical problems and misbehavior.
Currently, these persons (nicknames between parentheses) are network administrator:
- Dolf Schimmel (Freeaqingme)
- Môshe van der Sterre (Moshe)
- Colin Helvensteijn (raptor)
- Wouter Boelen (Wouter)
- Jan Pieter De Waal (zeveroare)
- Gerdriaan Mulder (MrNGm)
- Tom Hek (Ploffie)
- Michiel Tukker (acronica)
The administrators are present in #D most of the time and can otherwise be reached by email at administrators@metadirc.NOSPAMnl.
